Good Wood

The official womenswear partner of Goodwood Racecourse 2025, Phase Eight, decodes the race day dress code

Social season is in full swing, and the next horseracing highlight on the calendar comes courtesy of Goodwood Racecourse. Returning to West Sussex for five days this summer, the event showcases the best in British flat racing, with several races held each day. Thinking about trotting over to the festival yourself? You’ll need to look the part. We’ve teamed up with official womenswear partner, Phase Eight, to bring you the ultimate guide for what to wear to Goodwood Racecourse 2025.

What Is Goodwood Festival?

A highlight on the British racing calendar, Qatar Goodwood Festival (affectionately known as Glorious Goodwood) is a world-famous horse racing event. Taking place over five days at Goodwood, an English estate in Chichester, it brings together sporting stars and horseracing fans from all over the UK – and beyond.

When Is It?

In 2025, Goodwood Festival takes place from Tuesday 29 July until Saturday 2 August.

Is There A Dress Code?

While there isn’t a formal dress code in place for Goodwood Racecourse, guests are encouraged to dress up for the event. You can opt for a smart casual look, or don your full raceday refinery. But be warned, the Festival is an open air event nestled in parkland – so to avoid any clashes with the British weather, make sure to take a waterproof layer that will protect you and your outfit.

Dress codes may also vary depending on the enclosure you find yourself in. The Gordon and Lennox Enclosures, for example, allow for smart and smart casual dress respectively, while the Richmond Enclosure (Goodwood’s premier enclosure) requires a stricter dress code.
